How to Apply Hockey Die Cut Number Decals – Step-by-Step Guide

Proper application of die cut number decals ensures a clean, professional look and long-lasting durability. Follow these steps for the best results.

Before You Begin: Proper Storage

  • Store decal sheets in a cool, air-conditioned place to maintain adhesive strength.
  • Prevent curling by placing decals upside down and setting a flat, heavy object on top.

Application Steps

  1. Prepare the surface by cleaning the helmet thoroughly using mild soap and warm water to remove residue, oils, and debris.
  2. Starting with the back of the helmet, carefully peel the first digit from the decal sheet, avoiding contact with the adhesive side.
  3. Lightly place the digit onto the helmet, ensuring it is straight and properly positioned. Smooth the decal from the center outward using your thumbs.
  4. Peel the next digit from the decal sheet and align it next to the first digit, maintaining even spacing and ensuring the numbers are level. Lightly place it down, then smooth it out as before. Step back and confirm the numbers are straight and evenly spaced.
  5. Repeat the same process for the front of the helmet, ensuring the numbers are properly aligned and smoothing the decal from the center outward using your thumbs.
  6. Final Touches & Care Tips
    • Double-check all edges of the numbers to ensure they are firmly pressed down.
    • Allow the helmet to sit for several hours before using it, giving the decals time to fully adhere to the surface.
    • Avoid excessive heat, such as storing helmets in hot cars, as it can weaken the adhesive.
    • When cleaning, use mild soap and warm water—avoid harsh scrubbing around the decals to prevent peeling.

By following these steps, your die cut number decals will be securely applied, giving your helmets a sharp, professional look with long-lasting durability.
