How to Apply Replacement Text to Signs, Record Boards & Banners
Application Steps
- Apply low, even heat to the existing record using a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Once heated, use a plastic razor blade to carefully lift the top edge of the vinyl, creating a lip. Then, peel off the remainder of the record by hand.
- Clean the area with rubbing alcohol to remove any dust or residual adhesive before applying the new record.
- Wipe the area with Windex to remove any reamining rubbing alcohol, then allow the board to dry completely before applying the new record.
- Position the new record in the desired location and center it. Use two pieces of masking tape on either side to secure it temporarily and serve as placement guides.
- Use a ruler to verify accurate placement of the record and adjust as necessary for proper alignment.
- Apply a masking tape hinge across the center of the record.
- Cut the masking tape on one side of the record, leaving the tape on the board as a placement guide. Peel back the liner up to the center hinge to expose the adhesive side of the vinyl.
- Align the record using the tape guides. With a squeegee, plastic razor blade, or credit card, apply firm even pressure at a 45-degree angle to adhere the first half of the record smoothly.
- Repeat step 8 on the opposite side of the record, then carefully remove the masking tape hinge from the center and any tape guides.
- Slowly peel off the record masking at a 45-degree angle until the entire record is fully exposed.
- Showcase your newly applied record!
